Retirement Plan Office

There are many paper publications available at the Retirement Office designed to help you over those important moments of your career.

These have been made available here on the Retirement website for easy access, but if you also want a paper copy please let us know.

Publications

The major document of the Retirement Plan is the Plan itself. The Plan, also known as the Water and Power Employees' Retirement, Disability, and Death Benefit Insurance Plan, is a huge brobdignagian book of 163 pages of close to 66,000 words of very dry reading. It is so dry it belongs in a Got Milk? advertisement. To protect your sanity, the Plan itself is not available on this website. If you wish to read the Plan directly, it is available in the Retirement Office and in the DWP library at the John Ferraro Office Building. However the next document is an excerpt of the Plan and is much easier to understand.

The Summary Plan Description. This is a small booklet that is provided to every member. It contains the basic information of the Plan, condensed to less than 50 half-sized pages and only 13,000 words. Check it out for answers to any of your common questions.

How to Calculate Your Retirement Allowance and Other Information Including the Procedure for How to Retire is meant for members who are about to retire. It has easy to understand explanations of all the various retirement options with simple formulas to get a close approximation of what your monthly retirement allowance might be. It also contains information about how divorce and taxes impact your allowance.  This Adobe PDF file is approximately 6.89MB, so you may want to right-click on the link and select "Save Target As...".

Guide to OGS (Other Governmental Service). This book is for members who may be able to increase their service time by "purchasing" eligible prior governmental service credit including military service. More service credit means more money at retirement (among other benefits). If you feel you might be eligible, you have got to read this document.

Guide to the Withdrawal Process. We are sorry you couldn't stay with us until your retirement, but you probably have some money on deposit. This book lets you know what you can and cannot do with your money. It also has some helpful tips toward getting the most from your money.

Guide to SFDB (Supplemental Family Death Benefit). This book is for parents (and those planning on becoming parents). SFDB is an optional benefit which may provide increased monthly income to the surviving spouse and minor or disabled children beyond the standard death benefits all Plan members are entitled to.

Annual Report. Each year the Retirement Plan produces an annual report. Copies of the current June 2007 Annual Report Summary are now in! Stop by the Retirement Office and pick up a copy.

We also have previous years' editions available at the Retirement Office.
